Hay Free Radio presents Hush Hush - DISCO - Making a night to remember full of Disco Athems

After the success of the last two Hush Hush nights earlier this year, the gang are back with a 70s throwback DISCO night - Studio 54 Style!

Live music: from locals Jonny James and his funk band "The Rhythm" will be followed by DJ sets from Bek Vanstone and Mark Hilton.

DJ Sets:  Mark Hilton started his DJ career in Sheffield in the 90's. He owned a record shop which he ran during the day, and DJ'd in the clubs and bars of Sheffield, Leeds and Manchester at night, before moving on to play in London, and across Europe in venues such as Tresor in Berlin, Fabric and Plastic People in London. Mark has dj'd with the likes of Kenny Dope, Little Louie Vega, Craig Charles, DJ Harvey, Gilles Peterson and even John Peel! Mark has always stuck to his love of funk, soul, dance-floor Latin, nu Jazz and DISCO!! Mark and Bek will be playing a mix of Disco, Soul and Dancefloor Jazz.

A Brief History of Studio 54: There has never been and will never be another nightclub to rival the sheer glamour, energy, and wild creativity that was Studio 54. Remembered as the ultimate nightclub, where everyone who was anyone went to see and be seen. Existing for just three years, those who attended Studio 54 agree "People didn’t judge, you could be who you were when you were there. Transgenders took their lives in their own hands walking down the street in New York City [in the '70s], but in Studio 54 they were protected and free." Everyone talks about the remarkable freedom of Studio 54 and looking back with tears in his eyes, Ian Schrager(co-founder) assesses: "There aren’t that many times in life where you’re absolutely free."
