Hay Talks: Connected, But At What Cost?

19:30 | free entry

Does social media connect our communities, or damage them?

Social media has transformed the way we communicate, share information and build communities. It can bring people together across distance, give individuals and local groups a voice, help small businesses reach new audiences and create communities around shared interests.
But are we really more connected?
From online arguments and misinformation to social pressure, polarisation and the growing amount of time we spend behind screens, there are growing questions about what social media is doing to the communities we live in. Does having more ways to connect actually bring us closer together, or can our digital lives create new divisions and leave us feeling more disconnected from the people around us?
Join us at The Globe for a lively and accessible debate exploring both sides of the question. We'll bring together different perspectives from across our local community to consider how social media is changing the way we communicate, participate in public life and build relationships.
Is social media helping our communities thrive — or is it damaging the connections that hold them together?
Come along, hear different perspectives, and have your say. The debate will be followed by questions from the audience, so there will be plenty of opportunity to join the conversation.
Stay tuned for the announcement of our panel!
